A lot of fans are reactionary. Some fans don't understand that the position the franchise was in at the time he became a UFA they really had no choice but to give him that contract for his service to the franchise and forget he outscored Ove for three seasons during that time. Some people change feeling night to night based on his play. I'm of the opinion that it's not a horrible contract considering Skinner gets 9 but it probably won't age well however if the value of a 50-60 point guy is now 9m, I think he's very capable of that for at least another 2-3 years and with our team getting much younger he has less of a load to carry even if he doesn't hit that mark.

Another thing is that we wouldn't have Bishop, Radulov, Seguin, Spezza, Sharp etc. if Benn wasn't here because he's a guy players want to play with. If Benn was gone we'd have had a lot harder time getting players because we definitely would not have been competitive enough for guys to think we were winners.
