Geralt Voice Actor Doug Cockle "Doesn't Understand" Why Netflix Deviated From Witcher Books

There’s a lot of reasons for this. A huge one is time versus scope. Streamers want to pump out as much as possible (at least in the last 5 years), and usually don’t give enough time for writers that are brought in to properly soak in the IP/material. The showrunner will usually pick writers that they know can get a cohesive first season done under a certain timeline, under a certain budget, and that they trust. With these writers, either they haven’t read the IP material or played the games, but they can write compelling drama. The problem with this is that they think they solely need to focus on character to appease the fans to make the show work, but really they don’t know what these characters have gone through that makes them compelling or why the fans love them. They have no idea what environment or adventures helped shape and developed these characters over time. So they decide to add or take away things from a character that serve the seasonal story arc instead, when really, they rely on one another for the overall experience.
