This reminds me of something that happened to me recently.

I'm on my way home from work, and in a real hurry. Unfortunately for me, the trains are slammed, and I'm forced to wait for two to pass before one arrives with enough space for me to squeeze on.

The train screeches to a halt, one of the doors coming to a complete stop right in front of me. My patience has paid off, I'm clearly the closest to the door and have been waiting longer than anyone else on the platform. Now is my time.

Right as the doors slide open and I make my first move to board, this short portly girl pushes her way in front of me, slithering through the doors while I stand there taken aback at her self-centered disregard for me and the others waiting to board.

'No big deal,' I think to myself, 'There's plenty of space for both of us.'

But as I stand there, waiting for her to slide into the empty space behind her so I can get through the doors, I realize that she's just standing there.

"Excuse me, could you please move in a little bit?" I ask, fully expecting her to oblige. Clearly she must simply distracted.

"Sorry, there's nothing for me to hold on to."

...

I'm dumbfounded.

Not only did this woman make a concerted effort to cut in front of me after I had already patiently watched two full trains come and go, but now she was actively refusing me entrance to a train car that clearly had the capacity for it.

I mean sure, she may have had a hard time finding a new handhold, but she had no problem pushing in front of me to get on the train, why now is she no longer willing to push a few more people out of the way to find a new handhold? Furthermore, had she simply waited for me to board first, I would have been able to use my longer arms to find a handhold with relative ease, making enough room for her to occupy her current place on the train.

But no. She saw what she wanted, and she took it. And now that she had it, even the most minor of inconveniences outweighed everyone else's needs by a country mile.

As I stand there in silence, trying to find an appropriate response, the doors slide shut, and the train accelerates away.

Fuck that bitch.
