God I'm old...

Oh boy. I can't even remember the anniversary any more. I thought it was August 30. Thanks for posting something here in this TINY sub so I can remember properly! I've already missed Aug 27, so tomorrow (today) night I will do my own tribute.

So much time. I became a fan of SRV in high school, basically one or two years after he died, as I was exposed to the guitar-playing interests of my friends. My first album was The Sky is Crying, and it remains among my favorite because I believe it best shows the consummate skill of SRV. Jimmie V. did a great job of selecting this material from the archives.

SRV was someone I had a great interest in and felt a kindred connection with for many years. I have grown older and colder, and not heeded the advice of "Wall of Denial", one of my favorite "late" songs. He has millions of fans, but our sub has 168 members. The internet cannot really connect us in the way it once promised. (I know most people feel differently. I don't want to be on Facebook! Perhaps there are 10,000 people remembering SRV there, today.)

Recently I marvelled at the time I spent mailing letters to folks I would never know otherwise, to exchange bootlegs and share our interest. Now that has been reduced to "go to a site to download something", And I don't value those cassettes too much because I don't even have a cassette player or VHS player any more!

Stevie, thank you for filling me with emotions in a way that almost no one else has ever been able to. You are really one of the modern saints. You were on a unique mission that transcended music. And that is our little secret, even now, to some extent, to know just how much you were an amazing person.
