GradeAUnderA - THE YOUTUBERS COMPLAINING ABOUT DRAMA RANT (Exposing Matthew Santoro)

This is probably going to be buried but I feel like, after reading a lot of the top comments here, and being a bystander in this entire "Drama outbreak" I feel compelled to post something that I'm probably just going to delete tomorrow morning.

Just to make my perspective clear: The only youtuber involved that I watch regularly is Grade. I did watch Markiplier's video and heard about the PewDiePie response and the following KSI (KSY?) debacle, and didn't even know Matthew Santoro made his statement until watching the video linked above.

While my opinion may seem uneducated as I haven't reviewed all of the material, it just seems like Markiplier's video finally has a point.

This entire issue has become a "Self-fulfilling cycle of pessimism". Although, if I were to make one correction, it would be that it's not a cycle, but a virus (for lack of a better term).

This issue is not cyclical. While it may seem like it due to the popular youtubers presenting themselves at the forefront of the topic, the truth is that this sort of problem branches and reaches more youtubers than we will ever see make the front page of this subreddit.

And the problem that I think Markiplier barely avoided was that if anyone attempts to make a video explaining the drama, or even mentioning the drama at all, is just going to find themselves adding to it even if they didn't want to.

While Grade's motive in the video is a bit unclear due to his defacing of the primary youtubers involved in this, it seems like he is a perfect example of someone who just got caught up in the ordeal, attempting to defend himself. The only problem is that he got a bit too personal. The truth is, I don't 100% agree with everything he says in his videos, and as he began to attack the trivial qualities of Markiplier's videos I realized that he wasn't exactly the most altruistic entertainer set to save us from the problems we all almost forgot about.

Say what you will about Grade, but just like every other youtuber that has made a video about this topic, they all contributed by addressing it. Which sucks. As Markiplier said this whole thing is self-fulfilling. As soon as someone speaks about it it comes back.

The funny thing is, Grade says that he isn't a fan of drama because he hasn't made a video about anything drama related for two months before the one linked above. But none of the channels he mentioned are drama-focused either. They all weighed in their opinions as much as he did. And, honestly, by insulting Markiplier and calling out Matthew Santoro, I'm finding it hard to create a distinction between Grade and the stab at KSI (KSY?) from PewDiePie.

To me, as a person who merely watches youtube videos and makes belated comments on reddit, it seems like all of them are missing the point of their own videos. Or, at least, the video that started all of this.

The truth is that Youtube isn't really changing at all. It's policies are a bit broken but when it comes down to it the only thing that has changed are the content creators with the loudest voices. I hadn't heard a thing about GradeAUnderA until the start of this year, and now I see every one of his videos posted to this subreddit.

Being a voice on youtube causes you to become the victim of every potential viewer because of just about anything controversial you may say. Less popular, drama-focused channels feed off of this controversy because people like Markiplier and Grade are names that everyone knows and therefore they are more likely to make an impact with an audience, instead of addressing the same kind of drama that may be occurring between other, less popular channels.

My point is, there is drama no matter what, and these popular channels aren't witnessing a change to youtube, instead they are seeing themselves change from the audience's perspective. Suddenly every word they say is bound to offend someone and that causes this drama virus to spread, branching into every channel that makes the mistake of having an opinion.

The saddest part is, the only way to avoid this type of thing is to not have an opinion. Don't even bother attempting to defend yourself, because that just makes you look weak. And if you feel like weighing your opinion; best to reconsider. Because you will just contribute to this pessimism that Markiplier was talking about in the first place.

And now I feel like a hypocrite because I just gave an unwanted opinion on the topic. But I'm just a boring redditor with no real voice. This is probably just going to get buried anyway.

So I guess I'll leave it there. Better get back to that assignment I'm putting off.
