Graham Hancock's "Ancient Apocalypse" has reminded me why Graham Hancock would be a fantastic choice for a BTB on pseudo-scientists.

So I am not against speculation but the issue here is the framing of Hancock's ideas as a: on the same level as those of scientists dedicating their lives to research and b: that the entire archaeological establishment is out to get him and his ideas because they are dangerous or something. People are out to get him because he consistently makes baseless claims and ignores evidence just like any theorist. There is a huge amount of overlap between Hancock's argument that archaeologists are part of a cabal to cover up the truth and anti-vax rhetoric coming from those who are mad at faucci for taking covid seriously.

Most insidiously, however, is Hancock's STRONG belief in hierarchy systems from the 1930s as well as his consistent reference of hunter gatherers as monolithic and absolutely incapable of structure building or civilisation. It is distinctly hierarchical approach that creates lesser and greater people's. White supremacists could easily jump into his pseudo-scientific musings and use his "one civilising race" theory to argue that white bearded aryans spread civilisation to the whole world.
