Great description of Oakland Mall from Detroit Guest Guide.

I went in here a couple years ago for some Christmas shopping. After getting depressed in Sears I walked from one end to the other. Zero stores looked interesting. I tried going in some chain-media/games store. None of their products seemed interesting, but were priced way above reasonable. I left. I felt defeated.

Drove back to my town and walked down its main drag (12 Mile) into a couple stores. I grabbed a hot tea at some tea parlor, bought some presents and the various boutique stores, got a board game at Gate Keeper, and had a nice walk out of the situation, even ran into a couple of people I knew.

It became very obvious to me why malls are dying. And they should.
