Well.....a person has to exercise a certain degree of common sense, dubious investigation, and a personal moral code.....when it comes to being 'sensitive to cultures and traditions other than our own'.

As you know, every religion was blamed or used as a justification to commit countless atrocities against others. And profound enlightenment flows from the same wells.

I look at this tradition from the standpoint of very factual, logical concerns.

This tradition is incredibly unsanitary, and has been proven to actually expose infants to the danger of critical infection, or even death thereof.

I am not talking about any intangible religious mumbo jumbo, and I am not taking you for a swim in esoteric musings......I am proclaiming a very reasonable concern about why a religious tradition that is not even medically necessary.... trumps the health or life of an infant?

Look at some African tribes,, where the Mothers actually practice the tradition of ironing their daughters breasts, in order to stay compact/firm/flat.....the 'ironing' is a large piece of wood heated in the fire, and then pressed hard into the breasts at multiple angles. This tradition makes breast feeding incredibly painful, swelling from menstruation excruciating, and laying on her side or tummy impossible. Then.....they cut off the labia or sometimes, the clitoris.

Shall we continue to respect others beliefs or traditions? All the while....these people are being robbed of personal choice, of whether to follow through with those traditions, or to choose something different. This is indoctrination/brain washing starting at child hood. This is being forcefully enslaved into something that robs women of basic human rights. The same being said for the caste system in India.....newborns being sorted and labeled based on religious beliefs.....those same people have their social hierarchy decided for them, the jobs, careers, or life goals already defined.....and in some cases like the Untouchables......simply being born sentenced them to a life of slave labor in the most despicable jobs or conditions.....and they are reviled simply for existing......
