Hard time turning down free food or food which is included in a menu

It might sound like too extreme a comparison. But I think the general principle behind it is valid. If someone offered you some free heroin would you shoot up? It's certainly an opportunity and a very enjoyable experience. And it's almost a given that more work and suffering went into making and distributing it than goes into most empty calorie based items.

But you probably wouldn't accept the heroin because you know that after the enjoyment comes a whole lot of psychological and medical issues. Is it the same thing with some free bread or the like? Not to the same extent. But I think the overall principle is the same. The suffering caused by those excess calories is part of the overall experience too. Just as addiction and withdrawal go along with shooting up. A whole lot of things have an extreme moment in the here and now. But the events which follow it in the future are just as much a part of that overall experience.
