Harris: 'Medicare for all' is not socialism

I mean can you imagine if there were no police or courts... all legal disputes had to be settled with private security and forced arbitration. It would probably cost you like $10,000 to settle something simple like a traffic dispute. If you got robbed and it was more expensive to hire security to track the robber down than the value of what was taken from you than you would just live with the fact that you were robbed. So there would surely be this private system of "security & arbitration insurance" to help you pay for instances where you might need to solve a legal dispute. You pay a little bit for this insurance and when you have an issue the insurance company pays the much larger sum for the security and arbitration. It might even be considered so necessary to you wellbeing that employers help pay for it.

Then if a politician came along and said, "the government should pay for policing and courts—how can we call ourselves a free society when people go bankrupt for justice or ignore injustice because the cost is to high." That wouldn't be that crazy.

It's just a question of if our health is as important to us as our safety. Is our current system, where people have to choose between bankrupting their families and death a just system?
