"Hawaii, I love you, but..."

Full disclosure: I was born in Hawaii and I love Hawaii. That said, these pieces come around like clockwork, and say largely the same things. Does Hawaii have downsides, challenges, corruption, incompetence, financial burdens, natural disasters, and so on? Yes. It's a place, like any other place. Most of the time, when reading these essays, I get the sense that the author feels bad about deciding to leave Hawaii -- which is totally okay, it's not for everyone -- but decides to make that decision all Hawaii's fault.

If you're breaking up with someone because you don't love them any more, or they're not who they thought the would be, or because they changed from what attracted to you in the first place, just own it. It's okay.
