I heard about the abandoned buildings that people have been exploring, and was wanting to check them out.

if you are smart and cautious you won't get hurt.

It's smart and cautious to circumvent protective barriers in order to trespass on private property so you can explore an abandoned building? There's a good chance the abandoned building has been condemned (Unfit to occupy).

I'm not sure what it's like now but I know at one point the meat packing plant employed security personnel to keep urban explorers and whatnot off the property.

Then you have places like the T&P Warehouse where the owner had orange safety barriers placed throughout the building. That building has been in limbo for a decade or more and it's slowly decaying.

Even if you've employed a structural engineer (Or whoever does that sort of thing) to inspect the building it's still not completely safe. One misstep and you're falling through a crumbling floor. No amount of flashlights or knee pads can make an abandoned or condemned building safe to explore. Yeah, it can be dangerous driving on I35, but a lot of times it's necessary to travel down that road. It's not necessary for you to explore abandoned buildings.

Then there's the people who think it's a good idea to bust windows or put holes in walls and thus letting in the elements that contribute to the decay of these abandoned structures.

I'll admit, I enjoy seeing the images some of these urban explorers post online. That doesn't mean I think it's a good idea to do what they do.
