Hey Reddit what's your best "it seemed like a good idea at the time" story?

It was the end of Fourth of July, a few friends and I were either tripping or high and as a Patriotic tradition wanted to shoot huge firework mortars, but couldn't find the only mortar tube we had. We couldn't find any alternatives to shoot the mortars in the house and since there was a storm outside we didn't bother looking around the neighborhood. Our first great idea was to dig a hole in the middle of the ground in this small park near the complex. We thought it would be easy with the ground being all muddy, being under the influence my friend picked up a broom and volunteered to dig a hole in the middle of a storm while the rest of us watched from a distance under a porch. He came back later with bad news, he failed to dig a hole in the rocky soil with a broom. In a matter of seconds i see a lit mortar fly towards the street full with cars. We all run to the entrance door of the house only to find it locked with two of my friends at the window laughing. With this thought in our heads of getting in trouble, the rest of us quickly scrambled for a place to hide. BOOM! It was beautiful, everything felt like it was in slow motion, every single car alarm went off, my ears were ringing, then i feel someone pulling me into the house.(One of my friends hopped into the window and opened the door for us) We quickly turned off all the lights in house and peaked outside the window to see if anyone would come out to see what all the ruckus was about. (It was 1 in the morning) To our suprise no one came out. We thought we got lucky, then through the open window someone threw another one to see if the neighbors would care about it this time. Only moment I remembered about that night, good times.

PS: Neighbors used to always call the cops on us for doing fireworks, I guess they got used it used to and didn't care anymore. Nothing was damaged by the way and no one got hurt.
