We're gearing up for our Spring & Summer season and have some openings in Marine Park in Brooklyn. Open Positions: (Kayaking on the water) Watercraft guides Ave U at E. 33rd st, across from the Nature Center in Brooklyn Compensation: $12 an hour We are looking for Part-time employees, but there is the potential for more hours. Until late June, we will only be running boats on weekends and limited hours for children's groups during the week starting in May. The ideal candidate will be interested in learning about the abundance of nature found in the Forever Wild Salt Marsh Nature Preserve where we operate our educational experience for local pre-teens and teens, as well as provide kayak, stand up paddle board and pedal boat rentals. The candidate should be excited about the opportunity for upward growth in a company on the move! They should love the outdoors, enjoy working with their hands and BE PREPARED TO GET WET, YOU WILL BE IN THE WATER ON A KAYAK!!! The water craft guide is responsible for ensuring that ALL of our various watercraft's are kept 100% safe and operational at all times and that customers receive EXCELLENT service in accordance with company guidelines. In addition, they will be responsible for teaching a brief lesson to the local youth about the environment. This of course will be taught to new hires as part of training. Compensation and Benefits: • $12 an hour, Hourly pay • Discounted bike purchase • Free rentals and tours • Working on the beach and on a kayak • Teaching children about the local natural resources found in their own back yard Requirements: • 1-2 years of customer service/hospitality/teaching experience preferred • Enjoy giving great customer service and interacting in a quick paced, family orientated public environment • Take pride in their communication skills and have a self described positive, outgoing personality • Performing regularly scheduled preventative maintenance on fleet, building and repairing boats as needed • Maintaining boating area at our location to keep up a clean appearance for our guests • Maintaining accurate records of inventory levels and preventative maintenance on fleet • Providing support for special events and group events, as needed • Should love organization and not be afraid of hard work, getting their hands dirty, or keeping busy -- Keeping boats clean and running is a big part of the job! • Should be mechanically inclined, as well as a passionate orator to provide the best learning environment for kids in safe, fully maintained watercraft. • Be honest, trustworthy, reliable, responsible individuals with a strong work ethic with a passion for nature • Be available to work weekends between the hours of 9AM & 8PM, limited weekday hours until June and weekdays in June-- This includes ALL HOLIDAYS beginning in May. • Be able to lift 50lbs and be able to do physical work- i.e. lifting, moving, towing, and wiping down boats is hard work! You'll need to spend time towing in the boats to shore each morning and back to the anchored buoy at night. • Enjoy busy shifts with the public and be productive while working independently on slower shifts • Have reliable transportation • Be able to follow instructions and comply with ALL company standards • Be able to pass a drug and criminal background check, you will be working with families with young children *All necessary tools and parts will be provided.
