A (Hopeful) “You I Miss” Theory.

I think the relevance & thus meaning to John behind “ the you I miss, does not exist” theme is now perhaps in the rear view mirror for him. Meaning - he is able to reminisce about previous loves - as we have witnessed in Sob Rock - but the bulk of the sentiment of the songs included in the album tell a story of the present day of looking forward in hope to a new love, a yearning- a joyful potential. In other words, my take is that at some point in early 2020, John just was not feeling the relevance of missing that “you” anymore. So that track became obsolete to his then current thinking. Had he wrote the full track at the moment of writing - I think way back In 2018, he was in a different place emotionally. So when he tried to put it into a song in early 2020- as it is a great line etc- the authenticity of the sentiment he could not live with. So, if my assumption is correct- I don’t believe this will ever re- emerge - unless it becomes relevant to his state of mind in the future- which I wouldn’t actually hope for - as it would mean he had loved again, but then lost that love - which I do not wish on him. Just my take ....
