I'd recommend ramping up your mindset to something more manageable for your life. I can't imagine a path to succeeding at what you're trying to do when you think about snitching and feeling inadequate because you think someone you just met that got hired at a position above you has no chance of using their knowledge to improve your workplace.

Any smart engineer should know that recent grads will have some new knowledge to bring to the work place. It's naive to think you can't learn something from someone with less experience than you.

You need to focus on relaxing yourself and spend less time thinking about or talking to this person if they are affecting you this way. When you say you prefer being independent on your tasks how can you expect a new person to prefer being pushed up the ramp when they probably also think they can climb up it themselves like you managed to?
