How did you get into podcasting?

Was an avid podcast listener starting with shows like Major Nelson and 1up Yours (video game podcasts).

Started up a new band with good friends, played our first show and then a week later my thumb swelled up. Tried waiting it out but it never really healed. Went to doc and was diagnosed with severe tendinitis. Depressed I had to put the guitar down (which lasted way longer than anticipated), I started looking for a new hobby to keep me busy until I could fully use my hands again and resume guitar playing.

Volunteered to help a buddy with his podcast since his co-host seemed MIA at the time. I liked his show and figured maybe I could help push it along a few episodes. He accepted the help and we recorded an episode together. Immediately thereafter it hit me that podcasting provided me with a similar feeling of performing in my band. Shoot, I even had more listeners with the podcast than I did with the band.

One thing led to another and I eventually joined PSNation podcast as a co-host. Stayed there a couple years until I received life-changing news. That tendinitis I was dealing with was something much worse. The night of my annual fantasy football party I ended up having a major heart attack that almost took my life.

Went through heart surgery and came out of that telling my wife "they fixed my hands." That's weird she said, you just had heart surgery. Must be the drugs she thought. Lo and behold that severe tendinitis I had been dealing with for two years by that point ended up actually being a symptom of a heart attack.

Ended up changing my career (to drastically reduce stress) along with a few other things including surrounding myself with more positive people. Left the PSNation gig and started a more chill show with a good friend. Five years later and I'm still doing that show and are loving every minute of it.

I believe now my heart attack was a blessing. Got me into podcasting, helped me meet a few people whom I now consider my best friends and taught me some amazing life perspective. That's my story about how I got into podcasting.
