The bible teaches us how to handle prophecy.

1 Corinthians 14: 29-31

Two or three prophets should speak, and others should weigh carefully what is said. If a revelation is made to another person who is seated, the first person should be silent. For everyone can prophesy in turn, so that everyone can be instructed and everyone can be encouraged.

There are some clear instructions here.

The one I'm big on for people not following is you need at least 2 to say the same thing and a few others (usually church officials) to confirm.

1 Corinthians 14: 37-38 If anyone thinks he is a prophet or a spiritual person, he must acknowledge that what I am writing to you is the Lord's command. 38 But if anyone ignores this, he should be ignored.
