How much better/worse did Philly get

As a Sixers fan I think it definitely helps us in the playoffs because we badly needed a perimeter shot creator, but at the same time I agree that it doesn’t change our odds to make the finals this season. Boston exposed our lack of creation by running our shooters off of the three point line as there was really not much they could do once they put the ball on the floor. Jimmy helps that immensely, but it came at the cost of some of those shooters.

The lack of depth is a real concern. The hope is that we can pick up some guys on the buyout market like we did last season (keep an eye out on Ariza, Ross etc.) but until then the front court remains thin. A trade for Korver has been suggested but without Bayless it’s too hard to match salaries without giving up a good piece unnecessarily. The plus side of the trade however was that we still have $20 million in cap space this coming offseason and can potentially make it $30 million by unloading Fultz. For that reason I think it’s far more likely that the Sixers are contenders next year than they are now.

Overall I think the trade will make us a lot better for next season and beyond. This season however I don’t think it puts us over the top because of the lack of depth and shooting. The buyout market might change that a little but for now it’s still a concern.
