How do people do those loud, shrill whistles with just their mouths?

I can't do it with fingers, but I can do it without fingers and it's high pitch and loud.

But, I'm waiting on a doctor's appointment, and I look challenged trying to place my face as if I was gonna whistle... And I need to do it to explain it. To hell with it, they can look somewhere else if my facial expression bothers them, a Redditor needs help! Plus, they're busy judging that old person speaking so loud on their phone, so I'm good to go.

  • Step one: lips tucked in, (grandma shark style)

  • Step two: curl tongue, air will flow from between front-tip of the tongue and upper lip, so the front-sides of the tongue need to be sealed to upper lips sides. Pushing air out this way, you should hear it like wind in pipes, flutes or bottles, as if you're misaligned, but you're on your way. -Step three: adjust your pipes. As the air flows from top aperture formed with your upper lip and tongue to your bottom lip and then outside, clench your lips muscles, tongue and tuck in cheeks (no air pressure should get lost there!).

  • Step four: push air out strongly, practice enjoy and annoy your neighborhood.

Think your mouth as an wind instrument, like a basic whistle which you control some of its variable (pressure, sealing and aperture).

Sweet, time flies when I'm busy... Almost my turn!
