How to (Politely) Haggle at Farmers Markets

Farmers' markets didn't work out for me because they were far too expensive. In my area (NW Georgia), SNAP/food stamps had double value at the farmers' markets. I think that's an awesome program to get healthier food in the hands and mouths of people who need it, but I was in that spot between qualifying for SNAP and having the disposable income to spend a bit more on groceries. Everything at the farmers' market was out of my price range, and my hypothesis is that some of the vendors raised prices to take advantage of the folks spending their double-SNAP dollars. So while the farm fresh eggs were amazing, I couldn't justify $5/dozen when they're $1 or less at Aldi.

Again, this isn't a criticism of SNAP or social welfare programs (I actually qualified for and took advantage of SNAP later), just saying why the farmers' markets didn't work out for me.
