"If it appears that I am the stronger candidate against Trump, I think you're going to see some superdelegates saying, 'You know what, I like Hillary Clinton, but I want to win this thing. Bernie is our guy.'"

Obama doesn't have much power because he's never figured out how to do much in terms of getting his way in Washington. So he's a good example of an outsider who fizzled impotently due to lack of influence, poor negotiating skills and lack of ability to strategize and execute a political plan.

Buth had a lot of power. He came in and destroyed the prosperity of the country in a few short years. How? He had teams of neocons whose job it was to remake government in a neoconservative vision and they were mostly fuckups. He also appointed people who were anti-regulation to a lot of important regulatory positions and this led to many crisis/failed to stop crisis due to poor oversight. E.g. the banking crisis developed with virtually no interest or oversight on the part of his SEC, FDIC and other agencies. Bush appointees were notable for being rollicking incompetents, like the FEMA guy who let New Orleans go unattended after Hurricane Katrina; one hurricane was able to destroy many people's lives and a major American city due to a bad appointee.

If you want a president with power you elect someone like Clinton who has political networks, skills and experience accomplishing things. The millennials voting today are probably too young to remember what it's like to have a president who runs the country well after Bush and Obama, but you can expect a lot of legislative initiatives, news reports on major laws being worked out in all their details and lots of public debate that shapes these things being worked out in the open. All the secrecy of trade deals, Obamacare, Iran agreements and other treaties being worked out behind closed doors only for us to discover what's in them afterward, basically didn't happen in the Clinton years. The lack of transparency and secrecy of the Obama administration has no real purpose except to hide cluelessness and the making of painfully bad deals.

Obama, the current president, was The Outsider Candidate who was supposed to turn Washington upside down, and he was the choice of the online progressive youth (the "netroots") in 2008. But without experience and skills, he could only spend large stretches of his presidency isolated, completely dominated by obstructionists, crony capitalists and insiders. So Obama has given crony capitalists more power than they had even in the Bush years when hawks ruled.

The Inexperienced Outsider thing has already been done, and Obama is The One the progressive youth chose last time.
