Imagine Paul being like “John, you know, I really think you should let me sing Come Together.

It's funny you say that, because there is an interview out there where Paul said he felt "Come Together" would have been better if he had sung background harmonies on it, but that John didn't ask him and at that point in their relationship, it would have been too awkward to ask so he didn't.

The relevant quote:

"On Come Together I would have liked to sing harmony with John and I think he would have liked me to but I was too embarrassed to ask him and I don’t work to the best of my abilities in that situation."

I think both songs turned out all the better for it.
