Out of the five people that have been considered the fifth Beatle:  Sutcliffe, Best, Voorman, Epstein & Martin.
 It was Pete Best that contributed the least to the big picture.  Minimal drumming skills with no drive to improve along with the rest of the group.  What appears to be loner type personality that did not really mesh with the hijinks of the other lads.  He was just a placeholder.
 The other four played important parts in this story.  Stu was the least musically inclined, but improved over time.  His bigger contribution came from his artistic sensibility and his friendship with Astrid and Klaus which were an influencing presence in the groups cultural aura.
 Epstein saw the connection their performances made with audiences and had the vision of what could be with the correct guidance.
 Martin had the ear to hear what lurked beneath the raw sound.  He had the expertise to get a more polished result on the songs.  Mainly he instantly recognized that Best was dead weight in the studio setting and would not use him, sealing Pete’s fate.
 Bottom line is that I think we may have never heard of The Beatles if Best remained.  That’s how little his importance was to the group.
 That is why PB is my least favorite.
