If you were a foreigner, would you move to the U.K.?

I have insight on this as I am just about to qualify as a teacher in the UK.

The UK is a good place to qualify as a teacher in terms of the standard of the qualification. However a lot of newly qualified teachers leave the profession either entirely or to teach aboard.

Teachers have seen a pay freeze for many years in the UK (equating to a pay cut in real terms) and schools are losing funding. On a personal note, I'm in this line of work to have a stable enough job to get a mortgage (I do like teaching but there's better professions out there), I'll stick with it for a few years and use the experience to find something better. I have family in many countries in the world and the only thing stopping me from taking my qualification abroad is the fact that I am in a long term relationship.

As far as moving to the UK regardless of becoming a teacher I would say that it's a difficult choice. I think I would be happy to live here short term if I went born here, but I'd be hesitant to raise a family here with the way things are going. The UK is changing, it looks like it's for the worse at the moment but we'll have to wait it out and see.

Good luck with uni and teacher training wherever it teakes you.
