Why I'm a packers fan/can I be a packers fan?

Welcome to the family!

So, some more interesting things about the packers:

  • We're the most home-grown team. Only 3 starters last year ever played for another team.
  • The Packers are the third-oldest franchise in the NFL and the only one with the same name and location (1921). Our most-hated rival, the Chicago Bears, are two years older (1919) but started as the Decatur Staleys.
  • Our rivalry with the Chicago Bears started in 1921. The Vikings and the Lions like to pretend their rivalry is just as legitimate, but it's not. The bears hate the packers so much, in 1956 they saved the Packers from relocation. We love to hate each other. Just remember, if the Packers win the Superbowl and lose to the Bears, it was a terrible season.
  • The Packers won the first two super-bowls and were dominant in the 1960's but were terrible in the 1970's and 1980's. 1992 onward we've been good. We had Brett Favre to thank for our 90's success and he was succeeded by Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers is the polar opposite of Favre in terms of play-style. Favre was a wild gunslinger and holds the league record for the most interceptions, most consecutive games started, and second number of touchdown passes. Rodgers is accurate, often injured, and has the lowest interception rate of all time.

As a Packers fan:

  • You're always polite to the away team. They're our guests and we're going to beat them, so be polite. You buy them a beer and shake their hand. (If they're a bears fan, this is done to rub it in their face, but you're still polite).
  • You must passionately defend why packers are the best for intrinsic reasons having nothing to do with how they play football.
  • You must own at least one Cheese head.
  • Your diet on game day should include brats, cheese, and beer. Wisconsin is basically little Bavaria. 44% of Wisconsinites have German Heritage. Map of Microbreweries. Map of Dairy Factories.
