Bullshit gets called on Reddit User not understanding Uber

If you polled 1000 people asking them what ethnicity resides in Compton I'd wager good money that at least 950 of them would say black. The actual statistics don't matter-- especially in the situation of dog whistle racism since the message isn't trying for accuracy but to trigger coded understanding in the target audience.

So you want to add imaginary statistics to inaccurate demographic assertions?

Obviously you can look too hard for this stuff and find it where it's not intended, and certainly people can get carried away doing that, and hell maybe this guy isn't even doing it. But we can agree that dog whistle racist statements are a thing that exist, right?

They're a thing, but people are grasping and assuming way too much when the only reference is the word "Compton".

It was a fake statement about not paying with zero racial comments besides the highly presumptive assertion that the name of the city alone is in reference to black people.

You start out in 1954 by saying, “Nigger, nigger, nigger.” By 1968 you can’t say “nigger”—that hurts you, backfires. So you say stuff like, uh, forced busing, states’ rights, and all that stuff, and you’re getting so abstract. Now, you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is, blacks get hurt worse than whites.… “We want to cut this,” is much more abstract than even the busing thing, uh, and a hell of a lot more abstract than “Nigger, nigger.” -Lee Atwater, 1981

What does that have to do with the fact that people here are assuming a single word, Compton, is in reference to black people?

Really? Reducing a single word to racism?
