When the government creates structures of oppression, they always state it will only be used for the "bad people." And they almost always are bad people. But it never stops there.

The current pedophile reminds of the Red Scare. There were communist spies. This was a real problem. But you catch spies by doing proper counterintelligence work: conducting background checks, monitoring the finances employees with access to secrets, looking for evidence of intelligence leaks, etc. Telling everyone to spy on their neighbors isn't helpful.

Same with pedophiles.

Stranger danger is bullshit. Pedophiles operate like con-men: they earn your trust then strike.

Sex offender lists can be helpful, but because of the stupidity behind them, they're useless. Many people on these lists aren't pedophiles. Fun fact: sex offenders who don't target children have a lower recidivism rate than non sex offenders.
