Saying you’re a “born again virgin” is ridiculous

Had a girlfriend years ago that was part of a very religion and strict community in her hometown.

I wont say which one, but in this religion a woman's only real value was being a Virgin and having children. My GF left the church for a bit when she was 18 years old, when she returned she confessed she was no longer a virgin and that the doctors told her due to an internal abnormality she could never have kids.

This community was big on match making. This match making was based on the religious leaders determination of each members "value", it was described to me in detail but that was the basic reality.

My GF as a non virgin sterile female was setup with a man 25 years older than her with Severe Downs Syndrome who was almost non verbal. They wanted her to marry him to she could be his full time caregiver and relieve his family of the responsibility to care for him.

She refused and this lead to almost nobody speaking to her at worship and most in the community. Every time we went back to her home town I was shocked at the way nobody would look at her.

I am telling this so you know that for communities so much pressure in put on being "pure" and the ramifications so horrifying should you stray from the "path", people will do ANYTHING, use ANY loophole method to maintain the label of virgin. Yes I think it sounds stupid (Born again Virgin) but I understand it can often be more about self preservation than anything else.
