iPads workflow

I think one of the big ways my iPad has made a difference to my workflow is Siri shortcuts. I don't have an iPhone so this might be just as easy on an iPhone and not specific to iPad, but it's still something I think everyone should make use of.

Prior to using Siri shortcuts, when I would meditate in the morning this was my routine:

  • 1) Open up the alarms app
  • 2) Create new alarm
  • 3) Scroll to set it to be 30 minutes from now
  • 4) Start meditating
  • 5) Then I'd probably get an idea or two mid meditation, and unlock my device.
  • 6) Open up the notes app
  • 7) Write the idea down
  • 8) Go back to meditating
  • 9) Stop the alarm when it goes off
  • 10) Open up the alarms app
  • 11) Delete my alarm
  • 12) Open up the Strides habit-tracking app
  • 13) Tick off my daily meditation

Now I do ALL of that without touching my device once.

  • 1) Hey Siri, set an alarm for 30 minutes."
  • 2) Sit down to meditate.
  • 3) Then when I get an idea mid-meditation, I say "Hey Siri, I have an idea", Siri asks "What's your idea?", then I speak, and it converts my speech to text and saves it in the Notes app.
  • 4) When the alarm goes off after 30 minutes, I say "Hey Siri, delete all my alarms -> Yes" this both stops my alarm and deletes it.
  • 5) Then I say "Hey Siri I completed my meditation" to have Siri check off meditation in my habit-tracking app Strides.

All without even having to be next to my iPad. :)

Another example, I say "Hey Siri, start my workout" and it checks what day it is, and opens up my workout tracker app (Strong) and starts the right workout for the day. If it's a day I don't normally workout, it asks me which one I want to do, and then starts that one.
