I've now been stuck at my company for a month trying to quit.

For a variety of reasons, I decided to quit my job. I shopped around and interviewed at a few firms and ended up with a few offers. Just as I was about to quit, my boss took a vacation for a month. Unfortunately there is no alternative HR rep or employee with whom I could have submitted my resignation. Thus, I was forced to wait for a month. Of course, I accepted one of the offers and scheduled my start date for the following month.

When my boss returned, I submitted my resignation. I was asked if this was my official two weeks notice. I said yes. I've now been stuck at a job and company that physically drains me every day for over a month. I just want to get the hell out of here, but I also don't want to burn any bridges.

I'm not sure if it's appropriate to go back to my boss and calmly explain that I can't stay here for another two weeks. I had no way to quit before they got back, and now I'm just sitting in an office with literally nothing to do.

Any advice? Just grin and bear it?
