Joaquin Phoenix wins Critics Choice Award for Best Actor.

It means I didn't like Marriage Story and can't stand Noah Baumbach films. His efforts are rife with dialogue that comes out wooden, awkward, and disingenuous because it's often phrasing people wouldn't actually say, but instead are these whimsical ideas of what one guy thinks is clever or cute. There's a solid article you can google that speaks to this about the line, (paraphrasing) 'you shouldn't be mad that we f***, you should be mad that we had a laugh together. It's the equivalent of a writer not killing their darlings, but instead shining a spotlight on them. Couple that with flatly drawn characters and manic pixie scenes and it's excruciating to watch. I tried three times and every viewing I had to turn it off because it made me cringe.
