Joe Biden's COVID adviser admonishes Gavin Newsom for loosening California's restrictions

my anecdotal observation living in LA has been - people think they have been following the strictest protocols in the nation and are tired of it and that the "measures aren't working," while about 50% wear masks and people violate protocols all the time in county of 10 million. people are also getting hit hard economically, or following protocols can be difficult for them. also they violate protocols to see the closest people to them and pay the price brutally for it, my friend lost both his grandparents who wanted to celebrate thanksgiving because they were 95 and didn't know if they would have another chance to be around family again. friends from out of state tell them about their less strict measures and they get jealous under their strict CA measures "that aren't working" or why is Florida doing better when they cheat protocols all the time?, while not thinking about whether the county has been good about compliance and whether there are unique conditions here. I think a good counter measure for them would be showing them that other cities have been better and more strict amongst themselves with protocols - they'd be surprised to hear it but also give them more hope in trying to comply. People in LA also depend on going outside and to places to get some fresh air, exercise that are generally crowded and popular. I think they miss the outdoors and restaurants a lot, it's a big part of the lifestyle when your daily commute is ass in a big city.
