I joined this sub to gain a better understanding of Indian people

There is certainly a communal undertone in the Indian political theatre but the media also overplays it for views and profiteering. The fringe and tension creators/participants are only 30-40% of the Muslim populace which is still a large number. The percentage is way lower at around 12-15% in Hindus but number is greater on the Hindu side as their population is higher.

Non Muslims in India have the exact same problem with Muslims that non Muslims have with Muslims in any other region, country, continent. Mainly, they don’t allow non Muslims in an area or chase them out and use their vote bank power to influence politics and politicians oblige.

From my experience and avid reading and viewing of all sides media: Problem here is unique in the fact that IMHO around 40% Indian Muslims are more radicalised and follow the holy book to the T compared to the original Muslims from Middle East because they are all converts and suffer a feeling of inferiority complex kind of a fake Muslim feeling at their core so they try harder than ME counterparts to prove they are good Muslims.

The other 50-40% isn’t that hardcore or radicalised and does the basics their religion demands but is still conservative at its core, as they have to play their part to fit in their society and relatives. Rest roughly 10-20% urban Muslims are secretly liberals- they have to also play the part of being a good Muslim or face Muslim societal wrath.

From my chats with sons of imams who are like CEO of a mosque, they are heavily funded by middle eastern “wahabis” to promote the extreme correct form of Muslim way of life and principles. The funds also allow them to influence media and politics from grassroots to national level.
