Just finished a Persona marathon, kinda new to the genre

Awesome! I did the same thing last year when P5 released to such great reviews. I was a JRPG fan back in the 90s but had drifted away from the genre. P5 hooked me like no game had in years, and I've been on a turn based JRPG binge ever since.

Anyway, as others will tell you, there's nothing like Persona. Here's a few I'd check out though:

  • Shin Megami Tensei: The series Persona spun off from, much darker and missing the social aspects but has a very similar battle system

  • Dragon Quest: Classic turn based combat in a fantasy setting, nowhere near as flashy as P5 but does a lot of things right.

  • Trails in the Sky: Part of a larger series of RPGs, this one is the first. It's very different from Persona but the only game I love as much as P5. IMO it is the only game out there with writing that rivals Persona but the extremely slow development turns off a lot of people.

Most people will tell you that FFX is a great follow up, but I disagree - I actually played it right after P5 after hearing about it for years and was very underwhelmed. I'm definitely in the minority there though, you might like it.
