Is it just me who hates the fact that they’re making up new characters?

It isn’t, though.

Jackson has had a love for the series since he was a child. He wanted to bring them to the big screen because of his love of the books, and he got lucky when New Line Cinema gambled on him.

Amazon set their sights on LOTR an attempt to make the next big hit. The studio wants to produce the next “Game of Thrones”. They plucked two new showrunners with hardly any experience to their names because those showrunners won’t actually be running the show. Amazon executives will. The Marvel movies went the same route. They don’t opt for directors with a distinct vision or style, because it often leads to conflict with the studio heads. Broadest appeal means sacrificing creative control, and no big-name director would ever give that up.

This is not about passion. It’s the furthest thing from it. It’s just going to end up looking and feeling like another generic Netflix series, a la the Witcher.

I wish I was as optimistic as you.
