I recently came up with the idea of using the birthday of actress Suzanne Somers as a mnemonic for converting miles to kilometers. Somers' middle name is actually Marie, and the "-san" that is sometimes in place of "-zanne" is also regarded as the Spanish translation of the word Sainte, so there's another principle to apply to decode Sault Ste. Marie to "Suzanne Marie".

October is the 10th month of the year, and the 16th of that month is the birthday for actress Suzanne Somers, so we got 16 kilometers for every 10 miles. In fact, somebody I know even drove to Sault Ste. Marie on Somers' birthday.

And I can also see a Leonard Cohen reference in this cluster of geographical trivia too since he had a song titled Suzanne.
