Latino activists, arrested while canvasing in white neighborhood, sue CPD

1) That's the police version of events

Ok let me preface this by saying I'm making that statement based off the 300 or less words. Not being there and not investigating myself it of course is always speculation I obviously side with the police for the most part when they sound in the right. If I read a narrative I'm sure you and I would have probably a clearer picture on the actual events of this arrest.

2) I need to have a "supervisor's name" to go around collecting signatures for a petition? What if I am my own damned supervisor?

No you don't. You can go collect signatures for any petition you desire.

3) The ordinance for "soliciting unlawful business" is:

>a) no person may: (I) stand upon, use or occupy the public way to solicit any unlawful business; or (ii) interfere with or impede any pedestrian or anyone in a vehicle on the public way, for the purpose of soliciting any unlawful business. ¶

>b. As used in this section, “unlawful business”, means any exchange of goods or services for money or anything of value, where the nature of the goods or services, or the exchange thereof, is unlawful. Unlawful business includes, but is not limited to, prostitution or the illegal sale of narcotics. For purposes of this section, “soliciting” may be by words, gestures, symbols or any similar means

What probable cause did the officer have to believe that these two were conducting unlawful business? If the phone call tips they received, then...

They were being detained. The pc for the arrest could stem from victim statements, offender statements , documentation again things we don't know. Btw were these two officially arrested and charged with solicitation or were they held by detectives for 48 in lockup and let go? Again that's different.

4) Will they be pursuing charges against those callers who made a false call to police?

Just like the 10000000 people that call person with a gun or shots fired we get a night that remain anonymous just to get a quicker police response ?

Let's play this role reversal. You be the homeowner who read about the scams recently in the neighborhood. You have two younger looking gentlemen walk to your door. No identification. No badges. No anything. That scenario right there is enough for plenty of residents to call a suspicious persons call on those two which is valid. That in by no means is a false call or false police report.

Seeing someone you don't like on the corner and claiming they got a gun on them then popping off a description of them to police is a false police report.

To sum it up there's a lot of holes in this story that are unknown but the comment I made a frustration is seeing a racial epitaph As pc for an arrest in a neighborhood where the "offenders" claim it was profiling when they actually make up the majority of that neighborhoods population. Sounds sketchy and honestly like someone is trying to get a payday from yours and my tax dollars when it could go to something else.
