There's quite a difference between making no comment and publicly voicing your opinion. LeBron has done a lot of social activism by supporting under privileged people and showing his support against police brutality/black lives matter. There’s even been the case where he’s used his influence to enact policy change (All Star game move over the transgender bathroom bill). He wanted to play the social warrior game, well now he’s playing it.
