I can one hundred percent guarantee you, since the perp already left the scene, the local police aren’t gonna do much to help you. They will even tell you “we will send out a notice on our radios and will inform on duty police of the description of the car but unless we physically catch them we won’t be able to do much else” Even if you have dash footage. It won’t matter. They will gladly write you a report so you can forward that to your insurance provider but that is as far as it will go.

Which is pretty comical since they can look up and find a persons home address and info by license plate number. Which will include any outstanding warrants, prior arrests and convictions, and a plethora of other information about the person. In theory, they could just show up at the persons residence and ring their bell. If they come to the door they could even arrest them.
