Leverage Job Offer for a counter offer?

Right I can agree with all that. Not to belabor the point, but in an attempt to make it more clear, I think that what I'm trying to get at is that a company who knowingly pays you well below what you're worth and what you can get elsewhere should not be expecting you to be loyal simply for all the reasons that you listed. And insofar as expecting you not to look, I think that's an unreasonable expectation.

I think a company should take a practical approach, recognize that you're obviously looking because you can make more money elsewhere, and now that you found a place that will pay you more, they should bite the bullet and pay you more. Because if you weren't "loyal", you wouldn't even have given them the chance to make a counter-offer
