[List] Albums that are influential but not great

Funny, I've just been listening to NWA as well and had the same idea.

I do think there's a lot of interesting stuff on it. It has some heavy percussion and tracks like the title track hold up in its own way. Politically and historically there's still a lot of interesting stuff to find on it too. But overall it has just been taken over.

I think it's a different kind of "overtaken" from stuff like rock as well. A lot of hip hop is made with a somewhat self-referential tone, paying respects to the greats in a different way than other genres. So the stuff Straight Outta Compton did well has been improved on completely. Whereas rock has done something differently for each decade. (On a generalized level): 70s rock is just a different genre from 80s rock, whereas 90s rap often seem like 80s rap done better.
