General Discussion, Suggestion, & List Thread - Week of July 14, 2022

I’ve been writing and rehearsing my own music lately and I’d like to start playing shows and maybe put out a home recorded demo in the near future. The only thing is the songs I’ve written range from sounding like Charles Bronson-esque powerviolence to poor imitations of Built to Spill to vain attempts at mathier Faraquet-style songwriting. I’m not so worried about wearing my influences on my sleeve and I’m not so worried about the music being, well…bad. That’s a given and hopefully impermanent. It’s more so just the sheer variance in style makes me feel like none of my songs gel, like nobody could possibly enjoy most or even all of it. It also feels both inauthentic (a pretty vapid descriptor itself, I know) and jarring to sequence some sludgey noise song back to back with a rambly slowcore-ish thing.

Ah well, there’s worse things to complain about. I just felt like writing that out somewhere.
