LIVE: RBA Governor Philip Lowe delivers Press Club address following rate hike pause | ABC News

I'm going to be honest, I initially did not like this bloke but after hearing him talk I can see that he really is simply doing his job with the tools he has. I do appreciate that he makes a point not to talk politics and uses his privilege of not being a political member to speak reality. The comments he made about Australians in the majority choosing our way of life in relation to housing was very honest and something worth discussing. We and to a greater extent the generations before us have chosen to live in a few major capital cities, we've become wholly car dependent and steered away from public transit all for the desire of large properties with deep urban sprawl. I think the point he was trying to make is that while he can't speak to policy, he can speak on our nature as a society when it comes to housing. If we accepted more density then there'd be an increase in supply and all the auxiliaries that come with it e.g. public transit, closer shopping and other amenities which in turn lower costs as a whole. He made a fairly strong point that the alternative to interest rate rises is higher taxes which don't sit well politically no matter the demographic.
