How are young Australians going to afford housing?

Inheritance is big one. It is why we have a home. That said we have missed out on some inheritances because when you have a divorced family other relatives from other branches of the family can screw you over.

A lot of people yet to inherit don't realise what can happen when your parent has a new spouse and/or new children. You have limited rights.

It is legal in this country for a parent to leave all their money to their spouse (not your parent) and for that spouse to then leave all of their money (your parents money) to their own kids.

I think some people are banking too much on on inheritances. While it has been a blessing there's so many minefields from lack of rights over other family members and disputes eating the money through to cost of end of life care.

Many older people have prepared incomplete wills that may not be what you think they are. A will dispute can eat hundreds of thousands of dollars if the cost comes out of the estate.
