Horrible explanation here. It's not about "working harder" it's about working smarter. Geographical luck is what shapes the history of the world. We tend to forget white people came from Africa too, out of the Middle East known as one of the great cultural hearths of civilization. People who settled this region were the first to discover agriculture and were lucky enough to have discovered cereal grains and a lot of the livestock we eat today which when farmed correctly could feed more people. This leads to specialized roles in a community and bam societies are formed. And due to the science of latitude and longitude those grains and animals were well suited anywhere in the northern hemisphere from east to west. Agriculture, cereal grains along with specialized workers and livestock spread east and west, not north and south. The failed colonization of Africa by Europe is a textbook example of the lack of knowledge about this subject. At the time there was no understanding of how latitude and longitude affect crop and livestock growth which resulted in massive failures on the European side, and the worst of it is th they managed to change the way people in Africa live so that diseases proliferated. Long story short where you are in the world does make huge difference because down to the basic core it affects what you are able to gather/farm to eat and drink. As people in earlier arguments explained (and not so well) those in europe and Asia have staple crops which sustain the health of the population and make more specialist jobs whereas African cultures have for the most of history had stuck to hunter-gatherer society. Ex: In Africa or South America you always be able to find some ripening fruit at any time of year, which means you only need to focus on catching your game for protien. Whereas in Europe, it's so fucking cold in winter time there's no fucking fruit, and you don't even want to go outside either because it's so fucking cold. Necessity sparks innovation and bam there you have it.

Check out a book called Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond it talks all about this subject much more in depth.
