Logic behind committing to a baby but not a marriage?

Partner and I are purposely unmarried with kid. I feel like many comments are missing the point.

We're committed to each other. Being unmarried does not mean it's because we're afraid of commitment lol. Quite the opposite really; we're committed to each other without a societal pressure (?) forcing us to be.

I guess I'd say that if you get to a point in your relationship with someone that legal proceedings are the only thing keeping you together, the relationship is already dead. We'd just have one less step. But we're just as far away from that point as any married couple would be.

The added bonus is that there's some niche tax benefits lol. Apparently lawmakers never expected you to have kids without being married...? Because there's so much double dipping you can do.

PLUS, the woman gets extra legal protection as an unmarried couple. Again, for some reason the justice system is OK with abuses by husbands that they'd otherwise prosecute boyfriends for.
