Looking for a good underground series.

Hmmm... This looks like a job for Anime Hipster Man!

But he's not here, so you'll have to make do with me for now.

  • Boys Be...: A Hal Film Maker production from 2000, it tells a wonderful story about a group of friends. Too bad more people can't get past the dated art style...
  • Cossette no Shouzou: For fans of H.P. Lovecraft.
  • Denpa Teki na Kanojo: Not that it doesn't get plenty of attention, but it does tend to fly underneath the radar due to its short running time.
  • Freedom: This is what happens when you assemble a production team so awesome that the director of Akira only has to do the character design and the storyboards. Yeah. You heard me right.
  • Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora: I will not rest until this is in the top 200 where it belongs. If you loved the ef: series, you'll love this one.
  • Puni Puni Poemii: Face it. It's not a list of my favorite under-rated anime without a title by the most underrated man in the business. Yes, the same man that did Excel Saga. Best watched alone with the doors locked while hiding in the closet, just so absolutely nobody can see what you're watching. You'll understand why after about fifteen minutes.
  • Sentou Yousei Yukikaze: Two-time winner of the Tokyo Anime Award for Best Original Video Animation. Excellent dub. To be made into a major motion picture starring Tom Cruise. You know. Just another nothing title that people skip over because they never heard of it.
  • Sketchbook: Full Color's: Another by Hal Film Maker, this is the spiritual successor to the grand Aria series.
  • Yama no Susume: A criminally underwatched short in the West that is enjoyed greatly in Japan. It's a real easy mountain to climb, too.
