No. If you're an adult who prefers accuracy in language over snickers of 15 year olds, or a woman who is tired of having to watch how she has to refer to her cat because you'd have to be stupid to confuse a conversation in a classroom, work, or at dinner that is about pets with sex talks you can absolutely say une chatte. I basically refused to call my cat a chat because its inaccurate and had a few teachers not say anything. I had another tutor start to explain what I said and I responded I'm a 30 year old man and this is idiotic. She basically followed suit because she shouldn't be embarassed and as a professional french teacher she knows it.
