Yeah there isn't "universal" health care here. The hospitals have social workers there that walk you through the simple process of explaining you're poor and signing you up for Medicaid or a deferment or payment agreement, whatever you qualify for..if you cooperate..if you don't cooperate, you have 90 days (ime) to follow up. Three months. Have you tried calling them? I fled my abuser as well, have scars but never went to a hospital from him, lucky (stubborn) me... when I explained to medicaid why my income was gone, etc, they told me about all kinds of domestic violence programs, offering medical, housing, childcare, etc... take the help if you need it..but this really seems like a toxic ego to me; seething but not solving anything.
